Reading Plus is proven to accelerate gains in comprehension, fluency and vocabulary. The program simultaneously develops all 3 domains of reading – physical, cognitive, and emotional.
Students chose from a wide selection of age appropriate, levelled online texts. Carefully crafted comprehension questions and instructional resources teach students to read for deeper meaning.
Rooted in eight decades of research, Reading Plus is proven to increase achievement in students.
HOW TO BUILD LIFE LONG READERS
Research suggests that students who read more efficiently, are more confident and motivated: the more confident and motivated a student is, the more capable they are at understanding text. Reading Plus simultaneously develops all three domains of reading – physical, cognitive, and emotional – by integrating them in one personalised online reading program.
Reading Plus opens the gateway to discovering reading as a source of knowledge, insight, and joy. The result is not just a better reader, but a lifelong reader.
WHAT READING PLUS PROVIDES
Reading Plus begins with an assessment, InSight, which allows for personalised and dynamically adjusted instruction that encourages independence, broadens interests, and builds knowledge.
Insight is a unique adaptive reading assessment that measures:
- Silent Reading Fluency
- Vocabulary and Comprehension Skills
- Interest, Confidence, and Motivation
The instructional components of Reading Plus scaffold comprehension tasks while igniting curiosity and making reading efficient and enjoyable. As students experience success, they make connections, formulate opinions, and develop the ability to express and support those opinions with evidence and knowledge acquired from texts. Reading Plus develops capacity, efficiency, and motivation—the foundation of success.
Reading Plus provides school staff with access to an extensive management and reporting system.
Clear, easy-to-use reports provide educators with a summary of each student’s progress and specific areas of weakness. Information is presented in a simple, actionable format, so educators can track weekly assignments, evaluate rate of improvement, assess progress, and make effective, data-driven decisions. Teachers have access to an extended library of instructional resources that support them in leading small group and individual instruction that helps students progress towards mastery.
Engaging program dashboards encourage students to self-monitor their progress, comprehension rates, reading rates, reading interest categories, and even numbers of words read!
STUDENT CHOICE AND CONTROL
Reading Plus gathers information about student choices, progress, and gains, and converts that data into a simple, easy-to-read Student Reading Profile. It’s a powerful tool to help students increase motivation and build engagement in their own reading habits, interests, and progress.

STRONG READING GAINS
AT MISSION HEIGHTS JUNIOR COLLEGE, AUCKLAND
“ERO spoke to children who enthusiastically shared their improvements in reading. They understood their personal comprehension achievement rate (generated by the computer) and enjoyed being able to choose the vocabulary development activities that accompanied the passages they were reading.”
ERO, May 2018, Keeping children engaged and achieving in reading – teaching approaches and strategies that work.
Results from the 700+ students at Mission Heights Junior College in Auckland showed the students who used Reading Plus 3 times a week for a term, had an average improvement in their reading comprehension levels by more than 1 years normal growth, while concurrently their reading fluency improved by over 90 words per minute. (12 wpm per year would otherwise normally be expected.) The schools e-asTTLe results reflected these improvements.
